Festival Contes Givrés

A performance staged as part of the Contes Givrés festival in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Anne-Lise Vouaux Movement takes centre stage. Her stage partner is a rope; she straightens it, makes it meander, ties knots in it; she embodies her roots, the visible and invisible bonds we share with people, things and living beings. The narrative is pure emotion: the still, the subtle, the dance-like, the explosive – all woven into a vocal whirlwind blending narration, the characters’ voices and sung lyrics. Where the trees lead us to the roots of our being. A rootless and silent father. His daughter, Anouk, finds a second home in the oak tree in the square and becomes passionate about botany. From time to time, too, she has a dream in which her mother takes her to a weeping birch. So, as soon as she is old enough, Anouk follows the trail of this dream and sets off for the forests of northern Canada. Adventure strikes, bringing with it a whole host of wonder, helplessness, suspense, fantasy and solace. ‘No matter how high we soar, it is always from our roots that we draw our strength’ (Wangari Maathai – The Woman Who Planted Millions of Trees).
