Description
Camp Claude blends genres, creating what he calls ‘sky-wave’. Gamin crafts a rich folk-rock world, driven by the lyrics of a dreamer.
Camp Claude
“Is that your sound?!” Among the well-meaning and insightful feedback gathered from their friends and family ahead of the release of their third album, none captures quite so well the blend of radicalism, freedom and forward momentum that underpins the success of *Moody Moon*. To listen to an album like “Moody Moon” is to witness the emergence of a fusion of genres – what Camp Claude were already calling, upon the release of their debut album, ‘sky-wave’ – a term that’s utterly daft yet couldn’t be more apt to describe this blend of influences, ranging from the walls of sound in shoegaze and the starkness of cold-wave, the synths and guitars of new wave, counterbalanced by the ethereal layers and charm of dream-pop and a love for the pop-oriented rock of the 2000s. A term which, seven years after the release of their debut album, finds its finest expression in this unstoppable “Moody Moon”, a third album that is uncompromising and crafted with complete creative independence.
A reclaiming of creative control that culminates in the cheeky “Game Boys”?: “I was convinced I was going to make it my western track,” admits Mike Giffts, one of the trio’s two producers, with a laugh. An ideal playground for Diane Sagnier’s mischievous lyrics, weaving a parallel “between gamer and fuckboy” that both plays with (and subverts) video game tropes. Game over, boys.
Gamin
A native of Dijon, Quentin Gandrot, aka GAMIN, grew up surrounded by his father’s guitar riffs and the verses of Rimbaud. Starting out as a drummer, he cut his teeth on stage before falling in love with songwriting and French chanson. Self-taught and curious, he took private singing lessons, immersed himself in computer-assisted music, then enrolled at the Chalon-sur-Saône Conservatoire to hone his skills properly. Now performing as a one-man band – guitar, vocals and computer – he brings to life a soulful folk-rock world, driven by a dreamer’s pen and a well-honed stage presence. A lad from Burgundy who’s got all the makings of a star.
