This popular event will offer total immersion thanks to a wide range of activities:
. Medieval village with around thirty craftsmen and traders showcasing their products and expertise (jewellery, clothing, decoration, health and well-being, food, etc.).
. Medieval camps with dozens of tents recreating daily life in the Middle Ages, with demonstrations of tournaments, jousts and knight fights, authentic blacksmith and cookery workshops and an unusual farm.
. Discovery tours: the water mill, completely renovated and back in operation, the Garden of Eden and the symbolism of the key figures in the biblical story, the abbey winery and vineyard inspired by monastic tradition, and the remains of the abbey church with the secrets of the former monastery.
. Lecture-workshops led by passionate experts to find out all about the history of Maizières Abbey - and its founding role in the Côte de Beaune wine boom - cathedral-building techniques, wool weaving, ceramics making, the art of creating stained-glass windows and coinage.
. Shows and entertainment performed several times a day by prestigious medieval troupes: Comedy, Magic, Juggling, Dance, Storytelling, Music, etc.
. A large play area with medieval activities for children.
The historic Great Hall and 12th-century cellars will be available to cater for all visitors throughout the day, offering a wide range of options: a real medieval meal, an inn and refreshment bar, a rotisserie, etc.
On Saturday 05 July at 6.30pm, at the end of the festivities, a procession and mass presided over by Monsignor Rivière, Bishop of Autun, will take place with the reinstallation of the statue of the Virgin Mary, two bells and the Great Cross in the restored remains of the abbey church, following donations symbolising the historical and spiritual link that unites the abbey and the region.
