In 1380, Philippe le Hardi, Duke of Burgundy, acquired the fortified house of Germolles for his wife, Marguerite de Flandre. The duchess transformed it into a luxurious residence where the best artists of the Burgundian school (Claus Sluter, Jean De Beaumetz) worked.
