Visit the southern Chalonnais region

On the southern outskirts of Chalon-sur-Saône, this area comprises the communes of La Charmée, Lux, Marnay, Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, Saint-Rémy, Sevrey and Varennes-le-Grand. Easily accessible, it offers a different perspective on the Greater Chalon area, combining heritage, historical memory and open countryside.

Here, each village tells a different story of the area: in Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, the history of photography comes to life through Nicéphore Niépce; in Lux, the memory of the demarcation line recalls the more recent history of the 20th century; in Sevrey, the local heritage and traditional crafts bear witness to the village’s identity.

The area also boasts beautiful natural spaces, such as the wet meadows of Varennes-le-Grand, veritable reservoirs of biodiversity, or the walking trails of Saint-Rémy, which invite visitors to explore its green spaces, its heritage and its rivers, the Thalie and the Orbize.

In La Charmée, the rural and vernacular heritage extends this exploration, whilst the entire area benefits from its close proximity to Chalon-sur-Saône and the main transport routes of southern Burgundy.
