From the banks of the Saône to the edges of the great forest massifs, this area in the north of the Greater Chalon region reveals a more intimate side of Burgundy, shaped by water, woodland and the villages of the lowlands. From Allerey-sur-Saône to Gergy, via Demigny, Saint-Loup-Géanges, Sassenay and Virey-le-Grand, the landscapes alternate between wet meadows, the banks of the Saône, alluvial forests and country lanes, offering an ideal setting for walks or cycle rides.

Each village has its own unique story to tell. In Saint-Loup-Géanges, the area is characterised by the former Abbey of Maizières, the Saint-Loup mill and the vast wooded areas that surround it. In Gergy, walking routes wind through forests, plains and towpaths, whilst in Demigny, the rural heritage and narrow country lanes invite you to explore the area at a more leisurely pace.

Blending forests, the River Saône, the ‘Voie Bleue’ waterway and charming villages in perfect harmony, this area is an ideal stopover to take the time to discover another side of the Grand Chalon region – one that is closer to nature, more tranquil and deeply rooted in its landscapes.
