Somaliland icon Sahra Halgan blends traditional sounds with rock and creates Hiddo Dhawr to promote culture and commitment.
An emblematic figure in Somaliland, Sahra Halgan embodies the resistance and dignity of her people. A nurse and singer during the war against Siad Barré, she became "the fighter". Exiled to France for twenty years, in 2010 she formed a trio with Aymeric Krol and Maël Salètes, blending Somali sounds and rock energy. Back in Hargeisa, she created Hiddo Dhawr, a place dedicated to living culture. Their eponymous album celebrates music that is at once traditional, modern and deeply committed.
