Starting from the Chalon-sur-Saône Tourist Office, this cycle route invites you on a gentle and exotic ride through peaceful canals, typical villages, and the great European route. This 38-km-long route, accessible to all, offers a beautiful diversity of landscapes, between water, nature, and heritage. The first part of the route takes you through the center of Chalon-sur-Saône and the lively quays of the city center. Very quickly, you reach the Canal du Centre, the true backbone of the Grand Chalon cycle network, which you will follow towards Champforgeuil and then Fragnes-La Loyère. The safe and shaded towpath then leads you to Virey-le-Grand, with its agricultural landscapes and peaceful atmosphere. A beautiful straight line takes you to Gergy, where you will find the route of EuroVelo 6, the famous route linking the Atlantic to the Black Sea. From there, you follow the Saône towards Crissey, on a specially designed cycle path, with superb views of the river and the pleasure boats. The return to Chalon-sur-Saône is a leisurely ride, with an ideal arrival to extend the ride by exploring the historic center: why not put your bike down to visit the Nicéphore Niépce Museum, the cathedral, discover the half-timbered houses and stroll around the Place Saint-Vincent, or take a gourmet break on a terrace? This circuit is perfect for nature lovers, families and the curious wishing to combine discovery, relaxation and heritage. An easy escape along the water, between canal, river and city center.
