Rendezvous at Saint Loup de Varennes

09h30

The Maison de Niépce is the singular and endearing place where Nicéphore Niépce invented photography under the name of Heliography and then Physautotype. It is also less well known that it was on this property that he and his brother Claude invented the first internal combustion engine and perfected the velocipede. In April 1816, Nicéphore Niépce conducted the first experiments that led to the invention of photography in 1824. He succeeded in fixing a view from his first-floor studio window onto a tin plate.
