Explore the Voies Vertes in southern Burgundy by bike

With its undulating landscapes, Southern Burgundy is a land of lush greenery that’s perfect for getting away from it all. The Saône-et-Loire department boasts a network of 6,600 km of cycle routes, 221 km of greenways and 134 km of cycle paths. It was here, moreover, that France’s first greenway was created in 1997 between Givry and Cluny, on the route of the old railway line.


Chalon sur Saône

Many cycle routes pass through Greater Chalon. An opportunity for the area, which is particularly well developed for cyclists with many service providers holding the “Accueil Vélo” label.

  • The greenways from Cluny to Givry (73 km) and along the Canal du Centre (35 km to Saint-Bérain-sur- Dheune)
  • The Véloroute des Fleuves, from the Atlantic to the Black Sea (EuroVélo 6), which crosses 10 countries over 4448 km including 228 km from Mont-lès-Seurre to Cronat
  • La Voie Bleue – “Moselle-Saône à vélo” from Luxembourg to Lyon (Véloroute 50) over 700 km including 106 km from Mont-lès-Seurre to Mâcon
  • La Voie Bressane, from Chalon-sur-Saône to Lons-le-Saunier (68 km)
  • The Tour de Bourgogne à Vélo (872 km) and the Grande Boucle de Bourgogne du Sud (Véloroute 51): 145 km from Chalon-sur-Saône to Mâcon
  • La Voie ” Entre vignes et Saône ” (or Voie du Tacot) linking Beaune to Chalon-sur-Saône and Verdun-sur-le-Doubs via Saint-Loup-Géanges, Allerey-sur-Saône and Gergy (12.5 km)

The Department of Saône-et-Loire’s “Tous à vélo” (All by bike) plan is part of a context in which the region has real potential for developing the use of bicycles on a daily basis, so that everyone can help reduce the impact of their journeys on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which are a factor in global warming. Grande Boucle Mâcon-Chalon à Vélo route

Embark on an adventure and cycle the Grande Boucle Mâcon-Chalon, an iconic route linking two of Burgundy’s historic towns. This picturesque loop takes you through the region’s renowned vineyards, where you can taste local wines at authentic estates while admiring the rolling countryside. The route now links Chalon to Mâcon via the Côte Chalonnaise greenway, which passes through the vineyards, and Mâcon to Chalon via the Blueway, which follows the River Saône along the old towpaths.

There are 21 tourist attractions (gastronomic, wine and heritage) to discover along the 145 km Grande Boucle de Bourgogne du Sud… on foot, by bike, on rollerblades… but always in harmony with nature!
