Introducing the Salle Marcel Sembat

The Salle Marcel Sembat is located right in the center of Chalon-sur-Saône. It hosts concerts, shows, plays and numerous events for the general public.

Built in 1970, the new Salle Marcel Sembat follows in the footsteps of the legendary Salle des fêtes Marcel-Sembat, the former grain market that stood on what is now Place de Gaulle. At a meeting held on April 11, 1932, town councillor Rebouillat read out a report which read: “The council has decided to name the salle des fêtes de la Halle aux grains the salle Marcel Sembat”.
No other explanation was given, except perhaps that the two “s “s were soft to the ear, and not open to criticism.
Marcel Sembat, born on October 19, 1862 in Bonnières-sur-Seine and died on September 5, 1922 in Chamonix, was a French socialist politician and minister.
