Starting from Chalon-sur-Saône, hop on your bike for a 3-day getaway in the heart of the Bresse region of Burgundy. An accessible route that makes the most of greenways and quiet country roads, winding through hedged farmland, charming villages, traditional Bresse farms and along the water.
Cycling in the Bresse region of Burgundy: 3 days following the waterways and landscapes. Day 1 – From Chalon-sur-Saône to Louhans | 43 km – 110 m elevation gain. Leave Chalon-sur-Saône via the Voie Bressane (Bresse Way) and gradually leave the city behind. The route, easy and almost flat, crosses peaceful countryside to Louhans, the capital of the Bresse region of Burgundy. A gentle first stage to get into the rhythm of the journey. Day 2 – From Louhans to Pierre-de-Bresse | 46 km. A change of scenery for this second day! Following a stage of the CycloRoute71, you'll take quiet country roads through a more hilly Bresse region. Hedgerows, forests, ponds, and traditional farms punctuate the route to Pierre-de-Bresse. A very natural stage, ideal for discovering another side of the region. Day 3 – From Pierre-de-Bresse to Chalon-sur-Saône | 54 km For this final leg, rediscover the great cycling routes along the waterways. The route joins the Doubs River and then the Saône before following the EuroVelo 6 and the Voie Bleue – Moselle-Saône cycle route to Chalon-sur-Saône. With very little elevation gain, this last day offers a beautiful conclusion to the trip, between the river, wide open spaces, and soothing landscapes. Our advice: with its reasonable stages, low elevation gain, and a large part of the route on dedicated cycle paths or quiet roads, this loop is particularly well-suited to a first cycling trip or a family tour. The development of cycle routes and loops starting from Chalon-sur-Saône directly addresses the expectations expressed by visitors to the area.
