Spring in the Grand Chalon area?

A thousand and one emotions!

The days are getting longer, nature is coming to life, the Saône glistens, the vineyards are turning green… Yes, spring has well and truly settled in the Grand Chalon area. Why not head out for some fresh air and reconnect with the beauty of our countryside? Whether it’s a stroll along the banks of the Saône, a picnic amongst the vines, or dusting off your walking boots, our region invites you to reconnect with the rhythm of nature for a 100% zen spring.

1. Chalon in the sunshine

In spring, the city comes alive! The banks of the Saône, where pleasure boats moor for the day, are perfect for a leisurely stroll. It’s a pleasure to stop on the steps at Port-Villiers to watch the water glisten and see the barges glide by. In the squares, the outdoor cafés are back in full swing. You can take the time to savour a glass of Côte Chalonnaise wine, basking in the sunshine, or stock up on seasonal produce on market days. For a timeless break, rediscover the light-filled Saint-Vincent cloister, where a sense of tranquillity washes over you the moment you step through the door. In the sunshine, Chalon has it all!

2. Outdoor playground

The trails of the Côte Chalonnaise are calling! It’s time to put your winter boots away in the cupboard and happily dig out your trainers. The fresh country air gives you an instant dopamine boost. So, hop on your bike and set off to explore the cycle routes of the Grand Chalon, along the meadows or by the water’s edge. Prefer walking or running? Give trail running a go through the vineyards or in the shade of the woods for a fitness adventure! And for thrill-seekers, head up the cliffs for a climbing session – with the added bonus of views over the hillsides… Where will you go first?

3. Picnic with a 3* view

How about sampling the delights of Burgundy… right in the heart of its countryside? Fancy a gougère with a view of the vineyards, plus a glass of Côte Chalonnaise wine? With the mild spring weather, it’s time to get out your prettiest chequered tablecloth for a picnic in the great outdoors. The landscapes of the Grand Chalon region promise a three-star view. Looking for some peace and quiet? Savour the moment to the sound of the lapping waters of the Canal du Centre. Fancy being left speechless? Head up to the hills of Givry, Mercurey or Saint-Sernin-du-Plain! A picnic in town? The parks welcome you for a peaceful break just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of the town centre!

4. A boat trip on the Saône

When spring makes its grand return, so do the boat trips on the Saône! Glide along the calm waters of the Saône and let the magic take over. With the wind in your hair, listen to the captain’s tales of Chalon’s history as seen from the water. You could easily spend hours enjoying these cruises, which are the perfect example of the gentle way of life in our region. For those in the mood to celebrate, why not treat yourself to a tasting session on board, every Thursday evening throughout the summer? And the icing on the cake? The sunsets, which are simply marvellous from the Saône, with Chalon’s heritage poetically reflected in its waters. Shall we take you aboard?
