    Before it became a museum, the Denon was a drawing school which charged no fees and from the outset acted as a hub for local and European cultures. The collection contains over 25 000 archaeological objects and 11 000 sculptures and many graphic works and ethnographic pieces that mark 100 000 years of history. It is the result of individual adventures, passions, and the generosity of both the famous and the unknown. These pieces are the expression of creativity and cannot be reduced to one artistic movement or genre. They convey history, personal experiences, feelings, knowledge or everyday use.
