  • Félix Mendelssohn was born on 3 February 1809 in Hamburg and died on 4 November 1847 in Leipzig. A contemporary of Chopin, Liszt, Wagner and Berlioz, he left a prolific output for his short life of 38 years (symphonies, concertos, oratorios, chamber music, incidental music, piano works). His choral and vocal music is also very rich (psalms, cantatas, oratorios, lieder) and strongly influenced by eighteenth-century music.
