A2c/Femmes RegARTS, "Comme par enchantement" invites us to discover a woman of power whose actions shaped 16th-century Europe by building Charles V's empire on the collapse of the great Duchy of Burgundy: Margaret of Austria.

For this conference in preparation for our visit to the Monastère Royal de Brou - See 6 June 2024 - we are honoured to welcome Matthieu Pinette, host of the cultural season at Château de Germolles.

While the Château de Germolles represents the birth of the Grand Duchy of Burgundy - which rivalled the Kingdom of France and extended as far north as present-day Belgium and Holland - the Monastery of Brou represents the end of this 'enchanted' Burgundian interlude, as Don Quixote would say.

This lecture will look at the reigns of the last Valois dukes of Burgundy: Philip the Good and then Charles the Bold, Mary of Burgundy and her granddaughter Margaret of Austria, a true strategist in the service of the House of Habsburg and builder of the royal monastery of Brou.
