The Blue Way in Southern Burgundy

Burgundy is one of the best know wine areas in the world. The undulating landscapes are hypnotic, dotted with numerous mediaeval chateaux and historic towns. Some say That burgundy is a bit of Provence, without the crowds.
Description

Day 1 : Arrive in Chalon-Sur-Saône
Check into your hotel, then free time to discover the town. Meet up to receive your maps, route plans and bikes.
Overnight at the hotel. Chalon is a vibrant town that hosts each year the famous festival of "Chalon Dans La Rue". Its many squares, little cafes and pleasant atmosphere will give you an ideal start to your weekend.

Day 2 : Chalon-sur-saône to Tournus : 30 km
Follow the Blue Way and take the chance to admire the quiet river Saône, wich winds its way down to Lyon where it joins the Rhône. Arrive in Tournus, a small town of 6000 inhabitants, full oh history. Tournus is home to several interesting places : 
- The Abbey of Saint-Philibert is one of the best examples of Romanesque Art
- The Greuze Museum recalls the influence of the town, the old centre of which still has many traces of Roman occupation.
- The Hotel-Dieu

Day 3 : Tournus to Mâcon : 33 km
The Blue Way is flat and easy going. It is a cycle track that uses the old tow path. The bucolic route follows the river bank, bordered by pasture land and fields of maize. The Mâconnais landscape offers a surprising backdrop of karstic rock formations and vineyards spread along the magnificent Saône.
Arrive in Mâcon at the end of the day and the end of your break.
Collect your bags from an hotel close to the railway station. You can return to the beginning of the tour by train from Mâcon station. There are trains also to Paris and to Lyon. Or pass an additional night in Mâcon and explore this pretty town.
